Patiala: The National Theatre Art Society (NTAS), Patiala launched their “Make Patiala Smart City” Awareness Theatre Campaign here on Saturday to mobilise people to raise their voice as their right and duty at the historic Government Victoria Senior Secondary School here.
State’s prominent personalities including Shyam Lal Navyug M D Hotel Flyover Classic, Chairman S D Kumar Sabha, Socialite Dr Mahavir Sharma, M S Jaggi writer-artist retired Chief Manager SBOP, School Principal, Gurpreet Kaur and campaign convener duo Pran Sabharwal-Sunita Sabharwal inaugurated the event by paying floral tributes at the idol of Lord Shiva during chanting of Sanskrit Shalokas and thundering applause of the audience.
The highlight of the programme was 100 year old awarded ever green Punjab play ‘Suhaag’ of I C Nanda, the pioneer of modern Punjabi Theatre Movement and a leading pupil of Norah Richards, known as Mother of Punjabi drama. Other plays included anti domestic violence Ajmer Aulakh’s Sukki Kukh, anti addiction “Sanyian Kite Vadhaiyan Kite”, anti foeticide “So Kiyon Manda Akhiye”, besides folk dances and one-man presentations by Pran Sabharwal. Whereas the speakers M S Jaggi and Pran Sabharwal dwelt upon the historical, literary importance and superiority of Patiala to make Patiala Smart City. Sabharwal asserted that average level of income per person should not be a criteria for smart city. The other important aspects should not be ignored. Chief guest Shyam Lal Navyug a known Patialvi while presenting vote of thanks disclosed that the idea conceived by Dr. Sawraj Singh, a global thinker awardee, was planned by NTAS, who have launched Awareness Theatre Campaign to further strengthened & promote it to make it a Mass Movement. Ntasians honoured the guests by presenting to them award of honour, memento, bouquets and gifts.
