Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is not happy with the performance of top babus in the state. His repeated pleas and instructions to senior bureaucrats to perform well seem to have fallen on deaf ears. Therefore, his anger was quite obvious on Saturday when he directed all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to work as a team to ensure better implementation of developmental projects and redressing people’s grievances. It is said that he also conveyed the brusque manner top offiicals take people’s complaints. He was also upset over the non-implementation of some of the projects close to his heart. “There is a need to speed up the ongoing developmental projects in the state as it would not only be beneficial for the people, but also strengthen the administrative system,” he said. Time to act indeed!
Governor has no say in HPU?
Governor Acharya Devvrat, who tried to be very strict with the CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur and the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, it seems, is not having his way in the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He had made it a point to see that the recipients of degrees at the Palampur Agriculture University convocation last year shun the robes and come in traditional dress (Kurta Pyjamas) to receive degrees from him. In fact, many students had not turned up to receive the degrees for they could not manage the dress at the eleventh hour when the diktat was issued. However, he was himself seen wearing the robes in the HPU convocation on Saturday and the HPU students received their degrees in the same dress. The talk is that the HPU authorities smartly put his suggestion on the traditional dress code on backburner on some lame excuse, to which the Governor probably had no answer.
Sukhbir’s bike ride
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is these days quite open to honouring the requests of his followers. One such incident was observed in Gidderbaha a few days back when stepping out of his SUV, Sukhbir went in the crowd of Youth Akali Dal volunteers escorting his cavalcade riding motorcycles. Impressed, Sukhbir thanked the youth workers and in return the crowd expressed desire to see him riding the same. Not in a mood to disappoint them, Sukhbir was quick in looking for a motorcycle to ride and local area in-charge Hardeep Singh Dhillon’s brother Sunny Dhillon offered his multi-lakh Harley Davidson for the purpose. Sukhbir sat on it and gave a pose for the cameramen and followers. Though it was just a photo-op, his riding a motorcycle for few seconds came as a major boost for the passionate crowd attached with the party.
Even as the Christian community living in Punjab is in a happy mood after the state government’s recent announcement of giving 5 marla plots to them, a particular section of community apparently consider the move to be a political stunt. The community members have said that the government in its manifesto had mentioned about the 5 marla plots. Now, in the election spirit, it has made the announcement again but the implementation is a matter of concern. According to the official records, there is a population of around 5 lakh registered population belonging to Christian community, while the unofficial number of population of Christians is said to be around 20 lakh. Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur are the main districts with maximum number of Christian population. Now, the Christians are uncertain about who will get the 5 marla plots and who will not.
Raja Warring’s comical statements
Indian Youth Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who represents Gidderbaha assembly segment in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, is very popular on social media. This liking for him Fn facebook and other modes is not only confined to his party followers, but also the opponents. Reason: Warring who has these days turned into a loudmouth has recently issued a comical statement in party MLA Ashwani Sekhri’s Batala constituency, where he promised masses that Congress would buy four Toyota Innova SUVs in next government to send in the wedding ‘baraat’ of poors, with also filling the fuel tanks of all. He also assured that Sekhri would personally attend every wedding and even after the child birth every couple will get a Gold gift from him. Further, Warring promised that after Class XII, every girl in Punjab will get auto-gear scooters and boys to get motorcycles. His promises made him laughing stock of not only among outsiders but also within the party.
Unusual love for Navjot Sidhu
Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, after quitting his membership from Rajya Sabha, has not yet been able to join any other political front, but his love lost with BJP has made the Congress and AAP to shower unusual love for him. Till Sidhu remained a BJP loyalist, he was under attack by the Congress as well as others. But now, be it Captain Amarinder Singh, Arvind Kejriwal or Manpreet Singh Badal, everyone is singing paeans of Sidhu’s honesty and clean politics. Captain Amarinder Singh who is now representing Amaritsar Lok Sabha seat, which was earlier with Sidhu, is the loudest in giving the latter a character certificate. Former Shiromani Akali Dal minister Manpreet Singh Badal, who has merged his political outfit PPP into the Congress, has recently gone ahead in declaring that he would go barefooted to welcome Sidhu in the Congress. All this shows that there is nothing permanent in politics but the interests.
It was a great occasion for the workers of the SAD in Ferozepur recently when they stole the show by arranging a very huge gathering for Deputy Chief Minister’s function. It was also a great surprise to witness that no alliance partner BJP leader was seen on the stage from where Sukhbir addressed the gathering. No doubt former state BJP president and National Executive Member Committee Kamal Sharma was seen there but he attended the unveiling of foundation stone only, but did not share the dais when Sukhbir addressed the huge gathering of primarily SAD leaders and Youth Akali Dal workers. To top it off, Sukhbir too did not even mention BJP a single time during his entire address.
