Officials poured water in wheat bags to increase their weight. A major scam of embezzlement of wheat from the godown of food and civil supply department was unearthed on Wednesday. It was found that the officials of department had stolen the wheat and later poured water in wheat bags to increase the weight of bags.
After the embezzlement of wheat was unearthed the district food and civil supply controller lodged the police case and also ordered physical verification of godown to check the quantity of wheat.Following the complaint, a case has been registered at Police station Dakha against Maninder Partap Singh, in-charge of Godown and inspector of food and civil supply department Surinderjit Singh. The Police have also slapped case against the labourers who were shifting wheat from the godown and pouring water in wheat bags to increase the weight.
The Police have slapped Sections 380 (theft), 420 (Fraud) and 120-B (Conspiracy) of IPC.
Confirming the development district food and civil supply controller Rakesh Bhaskar told Daily Post that they have got tip-off from sources and raided Radha Rani Rice mill in Mullanpur. They found that the labourers were stealing the wheat from bags and to hide their act water was poured in wheat bags.“The water was poured in the wheat bags to increase the weight of bags,” said Rakesh Bhaskar while adding that this kind of modus operandi was seen first time by the department.
He added that opening the wheat bags and also pouring water is a major crime as this will destroy the stored wheat. The department have started physical verification to check the quantity of missing wheat. In the records of department 1.22 lakh kg wheat was stored in the godown, he added.
