Batala: One child lost his life while 27 other children fell ill after eating parshad in Guru Nanak Nagar here on Wednesday night. The victims were admitted to the Civil Hospital and private hospitals and four of them have been referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar as their condition became very critical. The deceased child has been identified as Baljit Singh, resident of Guru Nanak Nagar. Priest Paramjit Singh, who distributed parshad has been taken into police custody.
Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Pardeep Aggarwal, Civil Surgeon Dr H S Ghai and SSP Deepak Hilori reached the spot and started investigation into the matter. The Health Department has collected the sample of parshad and sent to laboratory. Jaspal Singh, father of the child who died, stated that his both sons started feeling uncomfortable as they reached home from the gurdwara. “The guilty will not be spared,” said a police official.
