Even as the state government and procurement agencies are making bigger claims of uninterrupted and smooth procurement of paddy at all the procurement centres with corruption free and transparent manner but all such claims have lost their credibility in one of the procurement centers in the home district of the Chief Minister. Fateh Majri sub-procurement center under the Market Committee, Samana facing problem of no procurement since 10 days because of non-availability of gunny bags (Bardana) to pack the procured paddy. The woes of the farmers and Labourer’s in that mandi are the same as farmers are fed up because of the long wait there in the mandi and the laborers are also fed up because of no work since 10 days.Interestingly some of the commission agent’s are trying to make hey in such situation and offering the farmers a package to purchase their paddy produce and demanding six gunny bags full of paddy from the purchase of 100 bags besides other incentives, which is a total exploitation of the situation. The center was managed by the warehousing corporation but its officials deployed for the procurement process seemed least interested in solving the problems being faced by the farmers and till fail to organize the bardana (Gunny bags) and the Farmers annoyed with such a treatment now bringing in the JCB machines in the mandi to lift and pack their paddy in their tractor trollies so that it will be taken to other mandis to sell it off there. When the Daily Post correspondent visited this center then two Farmers Surjit Singh and Sahib Singh, of the nearby villages, told that now they are badly fed up with the system as in the last ten days warehouse fail to arrange the gunny bags and their paddy crop was lying on the ground thus waiting for its turn for purchase but no solution seems in sight and heaps of paddy now going up with the passing of each day. They said that so now they have decided to lift their paddy crop from this mandi and JCB machines are called to put the paddy in the tractor trollies to sell off it in other mandi’s.These Farmers also alleged that some of the commission agents though ready to purchase their produce but they are demanding six gunny bags full of paddy against the sale of 100 gunny bags besides other incentives of their and termed it a direct exploitation of the situation. Meanwhile, the Labour class is also sitting idle in the mandi for the last 10 days and facing problems in arranging food for himself, one of the labourer Gobind Ram said that as warehouse officials fail to arrange the required number of gunny bags so that procurement came to a standstill in the mandi and for the last 10 days they are there for no work and now the position become terrible as they are left with no spare money to organize their food as well.
