Gurdaspur: Love have no barriers but in the caste centric and male dominated society village of Gurdaspurd is playing spoilsport.
Acting like Khap panchayats in Haryana , the Dakoha village panchayat in Gurdaspur has banned the entry of two families after their sons got married with girls of same village.
The panchayat has also urged the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht to issue an order to all priests of all gurdwara not to perform the marriages of boys and girls belonging to similar village.
The resolution stated that the families of Balwinder Singh and Dilbag singh would not be allowed to enter the village as their sons had done love marriage with the girls of their own village.
The resolution also stated that the panchayat will take action against boys who will develop relation with the girls of same village and will hand them over to police.
Taking a action against both the families, panchayat ordered the rest of families for social boycott of both the families.
Sarpanch of the village Pritam Singh said that in last couple of years, more than one dozen girls of village had solemnized marriage with village boys against the wish of their families and to put a check on such incidents, they had taken such a step.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal said he had ordered an inquiry into the matter.
