Ludhiana: Panic was gripped on Noorwala road when torn pages of five ‘Gutka’ (Gurbani book) were found in street number 4 of Anandpuri Colony here on Monday. Another incident of alleged sacrilege of Sikh holy book has raised numerous questions among the residents.
Basti Jodhewal police have arrested one accused which has been identified as Harprret Singh resident of Ananpuri Colony. Case was registered following the complaint of President and Granthi of Sukhmani Sahib Gurudwara and other area residents.
The incident came in light when devotees were coming to Gurudwara in early hours around 7 amwhen one of the devotees has found torn pages of five Gutka Sahib which werehalf covered in poly bag and half were mixed with garbage.
Devotee on requesting anonymity said, “I was coming to Gurudwara early morning and found torn pages of (Nitnem and Sukhmani Sahib) few meters back of Gurudwara. After that management called up police and investigation was started by the police.
Though torn pages were seen outside the house of accused Harpreet which Singh is residing as tenant and left out that rented house on March 25. Nearby residents and management authorities reached the new rented house of accused and asked him regarding this incident.
Police officials claimed that arrested accused has admitted that ‘Gutka Sahib’ pages were torn out by his children as they are not aware regarding this. He further claimed that he is not aware that how torn pages are being thrown outside his house.
Senior police officials and large number of residents gathered around the Gurudwara and complaint was lodged on the spot and accused was arrested after that. However residents have shown their anger towards sacrilege of holly Sikh book and also urged the police officer to look into the matter properly and find out the actual reason.
Some of the resident of requesting anonymity claimed that arrested accused belongs to poor family and his family already being run by the donations of people and Gurudwara management help.
Residents have claimed that police officials have recorded the statements of nearby residents and also asked the management authorities and people to give their statements.
