Jalandhar: Peeved over hike in annual charges, agitated parents on Tuesday held a protest against Shiv Jyoti Public School situated in Deen Dyal Upadhayay Nagar by removing their clothes on the school premises. The fathers of the students sat on a dharna on the school premises and raised voice against hike in the annual charges. The issue came to the notice of the parents, after the school management sent a notice to the students that they should submit their fees. The last date to submit the fee was February 20.
No sooner the parents realised that school management was adamant on its stand, all males on protest took off their shirts and started protesting. Raising voice against the school management, the parents said that the school has done a steep hike in the fees, which was difficult for them to pay. “We are already reeling under inflation and the school management has abruptly increased the annual charges, much to our annoyance. No formal information was given by the school management,” they said.
A section of parents also said that they were comfortable with the fee hike and that some of the parents were blowing the issue out of proportion. “We did not cooperate protesting parents,” said a group of parents. However the school management stated that they had not increased the fee rather sent a note to the parents through their children that they should submit the fee at the earliest. DP
