Patiala: As many as two employees were seriously injured in Punjabi University in Patiala when they were allegedly attacked by a rival group here on Monday evening.General Secretary of Punjab SC BC Federation Jatinder Mattu, who is also the president of SC and BC Employees Union, told Daily Post late on Monday evening that the members of the rival Babbi group led by Gurinder Pal Singh Babbi (who also claims to be the president of the University Employees) attacked him with swords, iron rods, baseball bats, etc, near the office of the Registrar just when he along with two of his close aides reached there to meet the Registrar in connection with some official work.
He alleged that Babbi, Avtar Singh, Gurmit Singh Mitta (all employees of the University) and Mandeep Singh (an outsider) along with 10 to 15 unidentified persons tried to attack him with swords and other weapons but he was saved by his aides, who received multiple and serious injuries.Mattu said that in the process, one of his aides Jatinder Kala, who is working in the University as a safai sewak, received injuries to his head as well his left arm and legs. He claimed that Kala was allegedly attacked with swords on his head and later when he fell, then iron rods were used to brutally beat him up. He said that similarly his other aide, namely Sandeep Kumar, also received multiple injuries. He said that later both the injured persons were shifted to Government Rajindra Hospital here for immediate medical treatment where both of them were placed under observation.
Mattu claimed that as the SC and BC employees of the University had chosen him as their president so Babbi, who earlier was the president of the University employees, was annoyed with him and therefore, tried to ‘remove’ him from the picture. When contacted Superintendent of Police (City) Daljit Singh Rana said that the police got information about the clash and started proceedings to register a case under Section 307 of IPC against the assailants led by Babbi. He stated that the police will take strict action against the accused as nobody was above the law of the land.
