Bathinda: A high drama prevailed at Dadu village, located on Punjab and Haryana border, when Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had to face wrath of local residents during a religious ceremony on Friday. The villagers also showed black flags and thrown tomatoes over the procession which was organised to observe the death anniversary of Baba Gurdev Singh at Gurudwara Dashmeshwar Sahib.
Later, the people who were opposing the procession were thrashed by members of special task force and around six people were injured reportedly.
Sources said that the Haryana police were aware about the incident but took no notice to avoid the situation. It is pertinent to mention that Dadu village is situated at Punjab’s border on Haryana side and the Sikh volunteers every year observe the death anniversary of Baba Gurdev Singh.
The procession was being observed under the supervision of Baba Darshan Singh when locals created the ruckus. People were annoyed for granting pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim in an alleged case of blasphemy. In the procession, Takht Shri Damdama Sahib’s officiating Jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh and Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh were scheduled to participate.
It is pertinent to mention that Dadu village is the headquarter of radical Sikh leader Baljit Singh daduwal, who was appointed Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib in the radicals’ convention named ‘Sarbat Khalsa’.
