Ferozepur: Peace and communal harmony in Punjab was once again at stake as bitterness between Sikh activists and followers of Dera Sacha Sauda sect has been rising day-by-day and none of the two sects looks to be in any kind of compromising mood.
On Sunday, Makhu Police worked very hard to control the situation when both the sects were seen determined to do or die for their religious sentiments. However, Makhu Police has registered a case against Sikh activists and booked about two dozen activists on the compliant made by Raj Kumar, a member of the 15-member team of Dera Sacha Sauda sect under various sections.
As per information, the Makhu police had booked a case under Sections 295, 296, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of IPC against Baba Dilbag Singh Arif Ke, Lakha Singh, Happy, Gopi, Balkaran Singh, Chhana Singh, Sukha Singh, Takla, Tarlok Singh’s son, four sons of Atma Singh, son of Karaj Singh, Jeet Singh of Bengaliwala bridge and others.
According to investigating officer, complainant Raj Kumar, a resident of Makhu, complained to the police that 150 to 200 followers of Dera Sacha Sauda sect were organising Nam Charcha (religious discourse) at canal Colony Makhu on Sunday morning and accused some Sikh activists brandishing swords, baseball bats and other weapons attacked them and uprooted their tents and abused them using abusive language and hurt their religious feelings.
