Chandigarh: The special investigation team (SIT) formed to solve the November 27 Nabha jail break case is groping in the dark as none of the 4 rescued gangsters and a terrorist Kashmira Singh could be arrested.
For the last two weeks the police was interrogating 7 accused who allegedly had a peripheral role in the incident. An assistant superintendent of jail, Bhim Singh was arrested along with a head warden. The Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent of the special security jail were dismissed.
The Uttar Pradesh police arrested Parminder Singh alias Pinda who was allegedly the master mind behind the jail break. Harwinder Singh Mintoo of Khalistan Liberation Force who escaped with the gangsters was arrested by the Delhi police and handed over to SIT.
Senior police officers were befuddled with timidity of the gangsters who had gone underground and none of them could be arrested.
According to Paramraj Singh Umranangal Inspector General of Patiala police range, the desperadoes were not making any movement. All had dispersed in different directions. He was hopeful of cracking the case in the near future.
No officer of the SIT was willing to say anything about the progress of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the DGP Prisons M.K. Tewari who was suspended had been reinstated.
