Patiala: Patiala Police finally managed to crack the infamous Nabha Jailbreak case on Sunday, claiming that in a swift action, they got a major breakthrough with the arrest of alleged mastermind of the case gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon along with his three other associates.
Even the top officials were tight-lipped about the action and the arrests as well but sources in the police department confirmed the arrest of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and three others.
These sources also stated that all the nabbed gangsters were brought to Patiala from Moga and taken in the CIA Centre Mai Ji Ki Saraan here as the police will interrogate them as they wanted to know about the plan and about the other absconding gangsters, especially about Vicky Gounder.
Sources further said that after polling for the state assembly elections, Patiala Police had activated its network of informers to check the activities of the absconding gangsters from the Nabha maximum security jail and it received success when it came upon a lead about gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who fled from the Nabha Jail along with others, and were still at large.
Sources added that the informers informed the police through network that gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon along with his other fellow gangsters were hiding in a house in Dhundikai in Moga district.
After getting a tip-off, Patiala Police’s party moved under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Detective) to nab them. Sources said that after reaching Moga, Patiala Police took Moga Police into confidence and a joint operation was planned to arrest the gangsters.
According to sources, the joint team of police cordoned the said house in Dhundikai and challenged the gangsters and later nabbed them from the said house. Four persons, including gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, were arrested along with some weapons as well.
Sources revealed that the house was near to the house where famous Freedom Fighter late Lala Lajpat Rai lived.
Sources also added that some days back, a NRI came and stayed in the house from where on Sunday Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and others were arrested. When asked the names of the other persons, they were revealed to be Kulwinder Sheera, Sultan Mangewal and Mini Sekhon and the police party recovered four pistols, one gun and two cars from their possession as well.
It may be mentioned here that on the morning of November 27, last year, gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon along with Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh alias Mintu, Mintu’s associate Kashmira Singh, Amandeep Singh, Kulpreet Singh Neeta Deol and Vickey Gounder fled from the maximum security jail at Nabha when gun-toting attackers stormed into the jail and during the incident fired more than 100 rounds.
The jailbreak rocked the state as in a daylight incident the security of only one jail in the state known as a maximum security jail was breached and jail inmates were freed.
Later, DGP Suresh Arora and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal visited the jail and immediately a SIT was set-up to crack the case. KLF chief Mintoo was nabbed from Delhi the very next day as the alert special wing of Delhi Police nabbed him in a swift action while working over the information being provided by the Patiala Police especially the SIT. But later the SIT become defunct with the transfer of three top officials from here.
It may be mentioned here that besides Mintoo other gangster nabbed was Neeta Deol who was arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police from Indore on January 17. Even as Patiala Police also arrested more than dozen persons regarding this case, but still it failed to nab the main culprits and with the arrest of Sekhon, now they eventually be able to crack the entire case.
