Police arrest second accused in R1.18 Crore Cash van loot
Jalandhar – A day after Rs 1.18 crore broad daylight heist, the Jalandhar Rural Police Saturday claimed to have arrested second accused and was tracing five other robbers, who were part of a seven-member gang. DIG Jalandhar Range Jaskaran Singh said that on Saturday they arrested one Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Budhewal Miyan village of Gurdaspur district and recovered Rs 14 lakh from him. Notably, on Friday afternoon, gangsters had looted an ATM Filling Van of HDFC Bank on Adampur Bhogpur road near Manakrai village.The bank van was carrying Rs 2.16 crore to be filled in all the local ATMs of the bank Addressing the media, the DIG accompanied by police officers said that a police party led by DSP Kartarpur Sarabjit Rai had already arrested accused Ranjit Singh at Cheema village in Kartarpur on Friday evening. “Ranjit Singh was rushing in an Indigo car, when he was chased by DSP Kartarpur Sarabjit Rai during which he sustained bullet injuries in his thigh. Ranjit was under treatment”, the DIG said.Among the other five accused were Satinderpal Singh alias Happy, a resident of Subhanpur, Sukhwinder Singh alias Nimma, a resident of Lakhan Khole village, Gurpreet Singh from Kamrava village and Sukhdev Singh alias Sonu both from Bholath and Hardeep Singh Lakham Kalan in Kapurthala. DIG Jaskaran Singh said, “Satinderpal alias Happy was the mastermind of the heist. He is a former employee of HDFC bank and used to work as an ATM filling employee. Satinderpal left the bank a year and planned the heist along with other accused, who were all residents of nearby villages of district Kapurthala.All accused would be arrested soon”, he said. At the time of heist, mastermind Satinderpal Singh alias Happy and Sukhwinder Singh alias Nimma was riding pillion on a motorbike, the DIG said. “It was learnt that the duo filled Rs 1 crore in a sack and fled, he added. The DIG also said that they have recovered an Indigo car, a 12 bore pistol (Desi Katta) and two used cartridges from the accused so far.It also came to light that out of the seven accused, six came riding on three motorbikes ie Platina, Pulsar and Honda bikes while Ranjit Singh was following the bank cash van in Indigo car. DIG Jaskaran Singh said that prima facie it was learnt that the accused have no criminal background. Ranjit Singh, who was the first arrest in this case on Friday was earlier based in Dubai and came to Punjab a year ago. On the other hand accused Nimma and Jaskaran were maternal brother-in-laws.
