Ludhiana – Despite the complete ban on use of polythene bags by the state government to save the environment and control the pollution, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has failed to take any action against those still manufacturing the banned polythene bags. Meanwhile, department has also failed in conducting surprise visits and raids at the suspected factories those are manufacturing these banned poly bags.The Punjab Government has strictly implement “The Punjab Plastic Bags (Manufacture, Usage and Disposal) Control Act’, prohibiting the manufacture, disposal and usage of polythene bags from virgin plastic of thickness not less than 40 micron and size not less than 8×12 inches and of a color other than specified colour. According to the sources there are still many factories which are manufacturing small size carry bags which are banned. These small size carry bags are still used by the shopkeepers, fruit vendors among others. Authoritative sources told Daily Post that such factories are still operating in areas including Gill road, Industrial area among others which are still manufacturing small carry bags. As per the experts use of these plastic bags leads to cause in environmental damage, threat to animal life and pollution among others which is very harmful for the society. Despite ban on these bags, many factories are still manufacturing these things and no official check is conducted to deplete this problem. Despite repeated attempts concerned authorities were not available for comments.
