Punjab Health Minister Surjit Singh Jyani on Thursday inaugurated three health facilities worth Rs 10 Crore in the district.This included a Rehabilitation Centre at Nawanshahr, Community Health Centre at Rahon and a hospital at Kathgarh. In his address, the Health minister lamented the projection of Punjab as ‘drugs haven’ by certain vested interests, who, he said, had badly dented the image of state’s youth across the globe. “The problem is not as grave as has been projected,” he said.
He said the opening of Rehabilitation Centres should be taken as a positive step towards bringing back the youth, who had gone astray on the path of drugs, into the mainstream.He claimed that nearly 234 medicines were being provided in government hospitals free of cost, besides ensuring free tests for the patients. He said the mortality rate of infants was 24 in Punjab as against 30 at the national level
The minister revealed that 373 newly recruited doctors would soon join their duty in government hospitals across Punjab. Jyani assured to fill up all posts in the Rehabilitation Centre and CHC Rahon soon.SAD MP, Prem Singh Chandumajra said a sum of Rs 3 Crore would be released soon for the completion of second floor of CHC at Rahon. He announced providing ambulance at Rahon hospital from his discretionary funds, while Jyani announced providing services of driver for running it by the health department.Markfed chairman Jarnail Singh Wahid and other senior SAD-BJP leaders and officials of health department were also present on the occasion.
