Chandigarh: Although the Punjab government informed the High Court the process of making appointments of ETT teachers is going on but the amicus curiae Tanu Bedi pointed out that the government was not serious to sort out the issue pertaining to duplicate names in the two waiting lists on the basis of which the appointments are to be made. She said that the process to identify duplicate names is slow.
She said that 137 candidates have been again called on Friday for getting appointment letters who were issued appointment letters in the waiting list of 2,005 candidates.
Counsel for the state of Punjab informed the Division Bench comprising Justice S S Saron and Justice Lisa Gill that appointment letters to the 588 candidates would be given today (Friday). However, when the Bench pointed out that the government had said during previous hearing that as many as 768 candidates would be handed over the appointment letters, the Punjab counsel hard found to answer.
The court asked the government to produce the list of the names of the candidates whose names have figured in the waiting list of 2,005 and 4,500 lists on Saturday and adjourned the case.
Meanwhile, the protester who has climbed atop mobile tower is not medically fit, said amicus curiae. She said that he has not eaten anything. She said that she along with other tried to make him understand that he his health is deteriorating and he should come down. However, she said that he was not ready to come down till he gets an appointment letter.
Apart from this, advocate H C Arora filed an application as an intervener and pleaded that in view of the emergency situation and in order to save the precious life of the protester, who has climbed atop the mobile tower, and to redress the grievance of the candidates, who are in the waiting list, the state of Punjab may be directed to identify the vacant posts of ETT teachers.
He has suggested that as an immediate and alternative interim measure, the candidates in the waiting lists may be issued purely provisional orders for appointment as ETT Teacher, subject to the outcome of the ongoing exercise for identification of unconsumed vacant posts against 4,500 posts or 2,005 posts. If they come within number of vacant posts, they shall get regular appointment, otherwise not.
