Jalandhar: Ensuring public security, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on Friday launched its ambitious initiative of 24X7 project ‘Ankhen’ and installed 20 CCTV cameras at sensitive locations in the local Model town market. The maiden wireless CCTV cameras with zero power supply requirement was first in the series to be installed at Model Town market. The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police would be installing as many as 52 CCTV cameras in different locations in the days to come.A first of its kind project, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla announced this project as part of public security to control petty crime including purse, chain snatching by biker’s gang and car thefts and eve teasing incidents.
On Friday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Model Town Karambir Singh launched the project in Model Town market. The ACP said that under first phase, CCTV cameras were installed on Nikku Park Road, Geeta Temple road, Chun Mun Mall road, KFC, Gurdwara Model Town road to name a few. “In the coming days, wireless CCTV cameras would be installed at Gole Market, Darshan Singh Kaypee road, Rainbow park road and other key locations in the Model Town market”, he said.
ACP Karambir also asked the local residents in the posh Model Town area to install CCTV cameras in their houses also. “This would facilitate the police in ensuring public safety. Public participation was a must in such initiatives and those who can afford this service should definitely get CCTV cameras installed”, he added. Earlier talking about the CCTV cameras installed today, the ACP maintained that these hi-tech cameras were not dependent on power supply, hence facilitating public security initiative. “These cameras were not only capable of recording round the clock developments but also catch clear images of vehicle numbers, hence giving vital inputs for every kind of investigation”, he said.
