PSEB asked to print books worth Rs 7 cr for Edu Dept
Chandigarh – Education Department has requisitioned the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) for printing books Worth Rs 7 crore for the ambitious Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab project. Earlier also the board had been asked to give money for other projects during the previous Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP (SAD-BJP) government. The board had been asked to give around Rs 20 lakh towards the construction of the Jange Azadi Memorials which were to be erected at several places in the state.
According to sources, Education Department Secretary Krishan Kumar has issued order for printing of these materials. Employee unions have strongly objected to these orders, saying that the PSEB does not have its own printing press and they depend on private printers for printing works. President of employees union Parminder Singh said that Education Department was putting unnecessary burden on the board.
“Now the question is who will pay this hefty amount to the printer. It is not clear. If such kinds of things keep on happening, then the day are not far off when the board will face financial crunch,” he said. He claimed that the DPI Primary and Secondary and DGSE offices are on rent in the board premises from 2012, but they have not yet paid any rent to the board.
