Ferozepur: Soon after the elections held in Punjab, the PSPCL had initiated its recovery drive in the state, because there is a very big amount of bills which has been lying pending in the state since a long period. When there was SAD government in the state, the PSPCL had restricted itself from recovering pending bills from leaders or their concerns in the state. This was due to some political pressure on the officials of PSPCL under which they had been finding themselves helpless to recover big pending amounts. But as the officials watched the wind blowing in the other direction, it started its state level recovery drive.
Under this drive, PSPCL first disconnected power to Ghubaya Engineering College in Ghubaya sub-division, which is being run under the management headed by the family of Member of Parliament Sher Singh Ghubaya.
As per SDE PSPCL, Ghubaya sub division Harbhajan Singh there was a balance amount of about Rs 24.62 lakh towards the Engineering college, which the college management had not been paying since a long period. This connection had been disconnected in January this year. As per the SDE, there was a huge amount of Rs 1.24 crore which was lying pending towards consumers in Ghubaya sub-division. Under the recovery drive, SDE Ghubaya sub division disconnected more than dozen water works, more than one hundred fifty domestic connections, 17 government offices and other premises in the sub division.
On the other side, SDE Jalalabad city sub division Ramesh Makkar said that there was an amount of Rs 76.80 lakh was pending towards the public health department which is responsible to supply the drinking water through its water works. He said that as per the guidelines of the department they had disconnected all the water works in the city. The connection of the stadium had also been disconnected which was revived after getting the deposit of the pending amount.
As per the officials of PSPCL, this recovery drive would continue till the recovery of the balances.
