Patiala: A flying squad of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) paid a very heavy price when working against the power theft case in this district as it was attacked by the occupants of the house from which it detected and removed a direct kundi connection in a village.
The attackers not only tore off the clothes of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) but also forcibly took away the record book from the Junior Engineer (JE) and also assaulted other members of the squad and created obstructions in the duty of the government officials.
The police on the complaint of the SDO heading the flying squad registered a case against nine persons, out of which 5 to 7 persons were unidentified.
While registering the case on the behalf of the statement given in the complaint by the SDO the Police registered a FIR under Sections 353, 356, 378, 186 and 149 of the IPC against the accused Sonu son of Naib Singh, Naib Singh son of Mukhtiar Singh, resident of village Binjal and 5 to 7 other unknown persons at the Julkan Police Station.
In his complaint given to the police, narrating the incident SDO Ravi Kumar from PSPCL’s Cantt Division stated that on a routine check a flying squad headed him gone to the village Binjal to check the power pilferage as reports were there about the use of the kundi connection to steal power.
Upon checking, they detected one kundi connection in the house of Naib Singh. He said that the required action was taken against the power theft party and as they are returning these persons attacked them and during the attack they tore off his clothes and took away the record book from the Junior Engineer (JE) Sukhpal Singh and ran away from the scene.
