PSPCL power factor surcharge a setback to small scale industries
SANGRUR: Small scale industrialists of Malerkotla have been suffering a major setback as authorities of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at Malerkotla have imposed power factor surcharge on small power connection industrial units, leading to extra financial burden on them, says General Secretary of Cycle Parts Manufacturers Association, Malerkotla, Munish Jindal. He further added that the notices have been issued to about 300 industrial units to deposit thousands of rupees as power factor surcharge. Earlier, they have never received any such notice or had deposited any money on account of power factor surcharge, he added. Jindal said if the notices will not withdrawn Soon then hundreds of industrialists along with their workers from Malerkotla would encircle the Office of Executive Engineer of the PSPCL on January 8 at Malerkotla to compel the authorities to withdraw the surcharge. He said before the issuance of notices the industrialists were not aware about the Surcharge and even no warning was given to them. He said now the department has calculated the power factor from 2016 and sent the power factor surcharge notices. Jindal also said, “Power factor surcharge is a fine imposed on the industrialists, if they fail to maintain the power factor to 0.90.
