Chandigarh: Panjab University has emerged as the best institute for higher education in the country in a survey done by US News as well as a global report. However, in global ranking, the university has slipped 26 positions from 363 last year to 389 this year.
The university scored an overall 53.7 points in 12 indicators. Last year, it had scored 49.1 points.
The university in 2015 was ranked second among the institutions of higher education and first among universities in India. The second position in the country was secured by Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore. IISC which was first in the country last year has also dropped in the rankings to 401 globally.
The ranking was conducted on the basis of twelve indicators.
The university was ranked seventh globally in international collaboration.
In the books indicator, it was in the last 100 institutes, ranking 925 globally. The rise in the rank among the Indian Institutes has been possible because of high ratings in the citation indicators. The university, according to the ranking, still has to work on its research reputation.
Panjab University Vice Chancellor Arun Grover said that the credit of the success goes to talented students, hard-working research scholars and passionate teachers of the university.
