Bathinda: Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu on Sunday said that India was close to launch 200 kilometer per hour speed train with a specific mention and one such train would also be given to Punjab, connecting it with national capital.
Accepting the demand put forth by Punjab leaders on occasion, Prabhu also announced to steam off special trains from Punjab for Patna Sahib to facilitate Sangat during the celebration of 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.
The minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones of seven ambitious railway projects at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore for Punjab from one location–Railway Ground Bathinda, which included the foundation stone of Rajpura-Bathinda railway line doubling project worth Rs 1,720 crore and 16 Limited Height Subways at a cost of Rs 40 crore on various rail locations in Punjab besides inaugurating Mansa-Bathinda newly doubled rail line laid at a cost of Rs 150 crore, new station building at Beas, new running room at Ludhiana worth Rs 3 crore, food plaza at Ferozepur Railway Station and five water vending machines at Bathinda Railway Station.
Prabhu said that Punjab had played a pivotal role to secure nation and its borders besides immensely contributing in national food kitty. The contribution of Punjab can never be paid off, he added.
Prabhu also announced that Punjab would witness massive transformation in railway infrastructure and its development in time to come.
In the presence of state leaders including Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, PWD Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Sikander Singh Maluka and others, Prabhu disclosed that Railway Ministry and States, in collaboration, were in a process of forming a partnership company for development projects.
He explained that this joint venture would further speed up the pace of Rail Development, Infrastructure and Investment in Railway Sector, mentioning that the issue was under consideration with some states, which would be finalised soon.
He also announced that Tejas and Humsafar superfast trains would also be launched in the country stating that these would be world class standards. He said that these world class trains would also touch Punjab through different routes. He also mentioned about the UDAY train that would steam off in night and reach at destination early morning.
Prabhu also announced to make Amritsar and Jalandhar Railway Stations world class by giving these stations complete facelift.
He said that the work on Jalandhar’s railway station would be completed by the end of 2017 while the project of Amritsar was being finalised in consultation with the Union Tourism Ministry.
Railway Minister, while hailing the state government’s efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, gave in-principle approval to various projects demanded by the leaders from the stage, including Railway overbridge at Rampura on Bathinda-Chandigarh highway.
It’s pertinent to mention that the Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal were also scheduled to attend the event but due to change in their programme they were represented by Bikram Singh Majithia.
