Punjab Government fails to provide grant to two colleges
The two new constituent colleges Mohkamkhan (Ferozepur) and Kadial (Dharamkot) which have been given to Punjab University now seems to become the liability of varsity as Punjab government failed to provide budget to these colleges till date. PU started these colleges around two years back in collaboration with the Punjab government. The negotiations for the budget of these colleges are going on with government, informed Vice chancellor Prof AK Grover and Dean College Development Professor.The constituent colleges plan is an initiative between the Punjab govt and the Panjab university. Around two year back two colleges were opened in Mohkamkhan (Ferozepur) and Kadial (Dharamkot) for which a MOU was signed between PU and Punjab Government. The four colleges which already running are in Guru Har Sahai (Ferozepur), Nihalsinghwala (Moga), Balachaur (Nawanshahr) and Sikhwala (Muktsar). Till date, about Rs 1.5 crore each has been provided by the state government annually to run the colleges, but Official says that at least Rs 2 crore each per annum is needed to run the four constituent colleges as liability of these colleges are increasing day by day as Teachers were kept on regular basis and strength of students is increasing rapidly. The entire management of these colleges is controlled by Panjab University and funding including the salaries of the college staff and college infrastructure is provided by the Punjab government.
