Punjab Government pay Bhattal’s house rent state tax. Chandigarh: Punjab Government will pay the rent of the former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal’s house from people’s pocket.
It is said that this amount of rent is Rs 84 lakh, which will be paid from the taxes given by the people. Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has given approval over it.During the previous government’s tenure, Bhattal was the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and she was given the minister’s post and a government house, that is house no. 46 in sector 2. When Congress changed their LOP and give this post to Sunil Jakhar, Bhattal was repeatedly requested to evacuate the building, but she refused.After this, the concerned department started levying rent on the market rate, but Bhattal refused to pay the rent. Prior to the assembly elections Bhattal was required to pay Rs. 84 lacs of the remaining rent for the NOC to contest the elections. It is said that Bhattal campaigned for the post of state Congress chief, but Jakhar was nominated for the post. She later contacted the Chief Minister on the housing and rent issue.Capt. Amarinder was in the mood to payback Bhattal’s gratitude, when Bhattal was Chief Minister and she recommended Captain Amarinder’s name as state President. He made two decisions, one of which was regarding allotment to the former Chief Minister (Bhattal and Badal) and the second decision was to pay Bhattal’s house rent of 84 lacs. Although the Finance Department raised objection on the second decision, the Chief Minister has said that they will find a way to fulfill this promise.
