The Punjab government has revised rules and regulations for providing pensions to elderly, widow and orphan women, dependent children and handicapped people. Giving this information on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Vipul Ujwal stated that no changes have been made in the age of applicants under various pension schemes.A press released mentioned that for old age pension, men of 65 years and above and women of 58 years were eligible. The widow and orphan women pension were being given to women below 58 years. Besides this, financial aid is given to unmarried women above 30 years, dependent children below 21 years of age and handicapped people (having more than 50 percent disability). No changes have been made for the age limits of any group.Deputy Commissioner said that now only those elderly, widow and orphan women, dependent children and handicapped people could apply for pensions, whose annual income from all resources was less than Rs 60000 per year. “As proof, the applicants would have to provide copies of either Aadhar card, voter card, voters list, certificate of matriculation or birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Birth and Death”, he said.He said that for old age pension, the applicant should have maximum 2.5 acres of land or 5 acres of non-irrigated land or 5 acres in water logged area (land in name of husband and wife put together). The report regarding land holding would be taken from patwari. “Patwari will do verification of rural area applicants, beneficiaries regarding land and residence proof. The executive officers of respective municipal councils and committees would attest the land holding and residence proof of applicants. Besides this, the applicants would also have to submit an affidavit”, he said.“If during verification, the beneficiary is found non-deserving, there is provision to take double the amount paid to beneficiary and it would be claimed from attesting or recommending authority”, he said, adding that if the pensions were found wrongly given, action would be taken against the official as well as the beneficiary. The DC added that the application form could be availed from the offices of District Social Security Officer, Child Development Project Officer, Sewa Kendras, website of the department, SDM office, Anganwari centers, panchayat and BDPO offices. He added that within a month of receiving the application, the CDPO would verify and District Social Security Officer would approve the pension.
