The Punjab Government has made arrangements to dismiss controversial Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh who was questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the terrorist attack on the Pathankot Indian Air Force base in January last year.
According to Government, sources, the process of terminating his services had initiated in this direction by State Home Department and final orders were expected soon because there are serious charges against SP.
Salwinder singh had been in lime light because of his suspicious role in Pathankot attack but he had always claimed that he was abducted by terrorists who attacked the air base. he reported to the police that the terrorists who came to attack the Pathankot air force station kidnapped him along with his associates and held them hostage for about 30 hours before the attack. Since then, he had been under the Central agency’s scanner following suspicion that he could be part of an international drug racket. During NIA investigation, the links of drug smugglers had been investigated with some Punjab politicians by agencies. Afterward many scientific tests were carried on the controversial SP and later on NIA gave him a clean chit as they could not find nothing against SP. He also denied having any links with drug smugglers. he had claimed that he had no prior knowledge about the terrorist attack in Pathankot.
Besides this, SP has one more controversial record. In 2016, the officer was booked by Punjab police on charges of rape and sexual harassment in Gurdaspur. SP made some suspicious statements before police which were not digested by agencies as how terrorists abandoned him along with his associates. there were other statements of him which were surprising for everyone. The Pathankot attack was a terrorist attack committed on 2 January 2016 by a heavily armed group which attacked the Pathankot Air Force Station.
