Yadwinder Singh Toor: Punjab Govt needs serious approach towards Punjabi language & agriculture. For some time in the Punjab, some people have been carrying a cavalcade to eradicate the sign boards in Hindi and English. From time to time, issues have been coming up in Punjab. Sometimes the farmers of Punjab are attacked and sometimes the youth is used for political purposes. At present, two issues have been burning in Punjab. One of them is related to farmers of Punjab. The farmers are being advised about pollution free farming in the times of harvest. Farmers of Punjab are not being allowed to burn stubbles, due to which the farmers are facing many problems for sowing of wheat or potatoes. The government on their behalf said that if a farmer does the pollution free farming then he would be rewarded. Penalties have also been issued to punish the farmers who set fire to the straw. Farmers may have no other choice but to commit suicide. More than 70 percent of the farmers in Punjab are unable to purchase expensive machines and due to which they either have to burn the stubbles or burn themselves. The second issue is about Punjabi language. These days, a Karnataka based scholar can be seen campaigning with a board written in Punjabi. It is really mysterious to think that a person from some other state first learned Punjabi language and is now fighting against it’s disrespect. Being influenced by this initiative, many youths living in Punjab thought of giving importance to Punjabi language and appealed the Punjabis on social media to erase signboards written in English and Hindi in their respective cities. The effect of this can be well seen on social media these days. Both of these issues need to thought very seriously. The Punjab Government needs to make certain arrangements regarding the issue of Punjabi language. Although it is write to have Hindi and English written at the signboards of big cities, but the Punjabi language should be given priority in its own state. The government needs to take serious note of it. Also, instead of giving directions to the farmers not to burn the stubble, Government should find better alternatives and provide machinery to the farmers, so that all kinds of farmers whether rich or poor can use them. The present state government has been trying to understand the problems of common people from over the last six months, but it has not been able to do so. But it would be seen, whether the Captain government will understand the problems of the people in the four years and five months remaining or not.
