Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court directed Punjab and Haryana governments and Airport Authority of India on Friday to hold a joint meeting relating to providing the security at Chandigarh International Airport. Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) would arrange the meeting and inform the parties concerned about the date and time of meeting. The court said that this joint meeting should be held in the first week of November.
The court also directed that an affidavit be filed by the joint secretary level officer of the Ministry of Defence pertaining to the resurfacing and extension of the runway and about other issues such as tendering process for the same.
The meeting will be held pertaining to the cost sharing of proving the security at airport. The court was informed during the hearing that Rs 33 crore expenditure was incurred during last year for providing security to the airport. The CHIAL would inform the court about the outcome of the meeting. Division Bench comprising Justice S S Saron and Justice Lisa Gill issued these directions during hearing of a petition filed by the Mohali Industries Association.
The Division Bench asked the CHIAL that the proposal should be finalised with timeline of finalisation of tendering process etc. and starting of the work of resurfacing. The Division Bench directed the Joint Secretary level officer of Ministry of Defence to file an affidavit relating to the issues concerning to it by next date of hearing.
The court said that the Chandigarh International Airport Limited would finalised the proposal after holding a meeting with the Punjab and others for acquisition of land for the extension of the runway, resurfacing of the runway and sent the proposal to the Ministry of Defence for final approval to acquire the land. The court was informed that a total of 128.74 acres of land has been identified for constructing the parallel runway. Apart from this, 50.18 acres of land of CHIAL will also be utilised.
The court was informed that old airport building it was stated in the court by the additional solicitor general of the Centre Chetan Mittal said that a MoU has been signed between the National Skill Development Corporation and the Airport Authority of India to establish a Skill Development Training Centre.
