Jalandhar, October 21(Kusum Arora) : Punjab Police Facebook to monitor social media: DGP. Considering social media as a bigger challenge in countering criminal activities, Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora Saturday said that people with radical thoughts were influencing youth through social media platform Facebook. DGP Arora said that to monitor and counter such luring campaigns on social media, the Punjab Police was all set to start its official Facebook page.The Punjab Police would keep a vigilant eye on various social media posts, updates and videos to counter people behind such sinister content. Talking to journalists, the DGP said that almost all other states have their own Facebook pages and Punjab Police would be joining the league soon. “We have already hired a private consultant to professionally run our Facebook page”, he said.The DGP said that through the Facebook page, the Punjab Police would interact with the public, share its updates and monitor other websites and social media platforms. He said that in the recent crimes, social media has emerged as a major challenge for the police. “In most of the cases, crime and conspiracies are hatched by people sitting somewhere else while it is executed by criminals through easy availability of social media channels like Facebook and Whatsapp”, he said. Punjab Police Facebook.Referring to an incident, the DGP said that he questioned a youth, who admitted that he came in contact with a radical group through Facebook. “The youth kept following the radicals and they in turn trapped him. Later, he received a call through WhatsApp and he was one among the criminals”, he added. Arora said that the world has become a ‘Global village’, where technology was changing fast. “By the time, you get accustomed to one form of technology, another one comes up posing yet another challenge. Whether someone is sitting far away or at home, social media has ceased all boundaries”, he added.
