Patiala: Punjab government has decided to start Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) for admission into meritorious schools in the state. This was announced by Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema here on Monday, while presiding over a function to honour thirty three 10+2 meritorious students belonging to Patiala district at the Government Multi-purpose Girls Senior Secondary School, Model Town. He said that the decision to introduce CEE has been taken in view the seats available in the meritorious schools and the increasing number of applicants. He said that up till now, the admission into meritorious schools was opened for the students belonging to economically weaker sections of the society, scoring over 80 per cent marks. “Since more and more students were getting more than 80 per cent marks, the CEE had become the need of the hour,” he said.
Talking about the proposed regulatory authority for private schools, Dr Cheema said the draft has already been sent to the Cabinet for approval. “This authority will take care of all issues concerning private schools in the state,” he said. Dr Cheema said the process to recruit 16,000 teachers will start soon as the state Cabinet has already approved the proposal in this regard.
