Abdul Hayee (8 March 1921 – 25 October 1980), popularly known as Sahir Ludhianvi was a famous Indian poet and film lyricist who wrote in Hindi and Urdu. He was born in Karimpura, Ludhiana. In 1995, Beant Singh (who was the CM then) laid foundation of an auditorium named after Sahir Ludhianvi. Even though it’s foundation was laid in 1995, the auditorium hasn’t been made yet. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, President of Punjabi Sahit Academy Ludhiana, wrote to CM Captain Amarinder Singh regarding this matter. He wrote that Beant Singh had laid Sahir Ludhianvi auditorium’s foundation back in 1995 at the place of a community centre at Pakhowal road. However, due to some specific reasons the project could not be accomplished. The District authorities even returned the funds availed by state government for the project. President Gill added that Sahir Ludhianvi represents Ludhiana and is the city’s pride and he shines like a star. He further threw light on 803 places under Government’s control in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar where Sahir Ludhianvi auditorium can be constructed. He then requested the CM to direct Cultural affairs department towards this issue so that the memorial auditorium could be constructed.
