Patiala: Punjabi language : The Shiromani Committee, Akali Dal, Congress and other social political parties of Punjab are not concerned about their mother language. But a Kannada professor has given a legal notice to PWD to write sign boards in Punjabi language on national highways in Punjab. He took out a march in Patiala alone for the sake of Punjabi language. The Punjabis though were ashamed once because Kannad Prof. is fighting for their language.He has issued a legal notice to the PWD and B & R department against writing Punjabi language on the third place on signals on the national highways in Punjab and asked to write Punjabi on the first number within three months.Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar is serving as an assistant professor in Government College, Chandigarh. Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar took the march from the bus stand to the Mini Secretariat from the headquarters of PWD and B & R department and demanded Punjabi language to be written at 1st place. He raised up banner over his head and wrote ‘Honor Punjabi mother tongue’. The professor reached PWD Chief Engineer and handed over the notice to him.Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar said that this letter has been issued for three months. If the department does not write Punjabi at the first place on the national highways in Punjab within three months then they will go to court. Showing pictures of National Highway No. 54, he said that Hindi has been written at first followed by English at second and Punjabi have been written at third place, whereas according to the official language act of 1963 the local language should be at number one.He added that even the landmark stones are being written in Hindi in Punjab. Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar said that the department officials have assured him that the Punjabi will be written on these boards at first place. It is to be mentioned that the former resident of Karnataka, Prof. Panditrao Dharennavar has also translated Sri Japuji Sahib, Sri Sukhmani Sahib, Asa Di Var and Jaffarnaa in Kannada language.
