Nawanshar: Apart from topping Doaba region in total votes polled, Balachaur segment falling under Nawanshar has set another record this time as 93.03 per cent of Persons With Disabilities (PWD) voters exercised their franchise in assembly polls.
According to SDM-cum-RO Jagjit Singh, a total of 359 PWD voters are registered in the constituency out of which 334 casted their votes. The administration had made special arrangements at the polling stations for disabled voters.
PWD voters were provided wheel chairs and special volunteers assisted them at the polling stations. The RO said that during the month of September 371 voters had been identified as PWD. A fortnight before polling, 12 among them had to be struck off for various reasons including death and change of residence.
Lauding the efforts of BLOs and volunteers, SDM said that it were due to their efforts that Balachaur could secure a place of pride in entire Doaba region.
Meanwhile, a perusal of the voter turn-out report of the district revealed that while there were no tendered votes in any of three constituencies falling in the district, third gender electors, though insignificant in numbers, too turned up to cast their votes.
Three of the four such electors registered polled their votes with Banga and Nawanshahr having two voters each.
Out of them, both of the electors who were registered in Nawanshahr segment polled their votes.
NAWANSHAHR: Under the “Sparash Leprosy Jagrookta” drive being held in the district from January 30 to February 13, examination camps are being organized at civil hospitals in Nawanshahr and Balachaur and at CHS Rahon.
