The Rahul Gandhi brigade members in the state are on cloud nine. The would-be AICC president Rahul Gandhi has given his consent to induct young MLAs in Punjab Cabinet. Punjab Cabinet is likely to be expanded anytime after December 18. Eight posts are to be filled in the Cabinet. Sources said that at least two berths are likely to be kept reserved for future inclusions. Sources said that discussions are on to change the portfolios of some ministers too. Earlier the Cabinet expansion was to take place on December 14, but due to the Code of Conduct in force, the move was deferred. The expansion has been pending since the last nine months after the formation of Captain government in the state. The Congress has 77 MLAs in the 117-member Punjab assembly. The expansion was being lingered on the various grounds of excuses. Sources told although CM is not in uncomfortable position with the present size of cabinet, but the resentment among the senior MLAs is being appeared on various ground.There are 10 ministers including 8 Cabinets and two Ministers of State, including the Chief Minister and 8 berths are vacant in the Cabinet. Out of 10, there are three ministers who belong to the Dalit community including Charanjit Channi, Aruna Chaudhry and Sadhu Singh Dharmsot, while CM holds several portfolios including Transport, Agriculture, Excise and Taxation, Home Affairs and Justice, General Administration, Vigilance, Personnel, Animal and Husbandry, Revenue and all other departments not assigned to any other minister.It was expected that expansion could accommodate young leaders like Vijayinder Singla, Kuljit Singh Nagra and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who are key members of Rahul brigade. Sources said that after the formal announcement of Rahul Gandhi as president of AICC on December 11, induction of young leaders in the Cabinet will be finalised.
