Jalandhar: The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) on Saturday said that the National Weather Service of California in the United States (US) has issued ‘Flood Warning’ and cautioned people including Punjabis to recognize the dangers of floods in the area, particularly at night.
NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said that the National Weather Service of California has issued a Flood Warning to the residents of Southern California.
The residents of Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Ontario, Corona, Victorville, Rialto, Hesperia, Chino, Apple Valley, I-15 through the Cajon Pass, Hwy 2 between Phelan and Wrightwood, I-15 between Victorville and Barstow and Lucerne Valley counties have been asked to remain vigilant, Chahal said.
Chahal said that as per his family sources in California, Punjabis were not in a position to sleep at night in their houses while their businesses were almost shut down due to heavy rains and storms.
The NAPA Executive Director also said that the National Weather Service has cautioned the residents to ensure their safety amidst dangers of flooding especially at night.
“Some locations that were likely to experience flooding include Riverside, San Bernardino, Fontana, Ontario, Corona, Victorville, Rialto, Hesperia, Chino, Apple Valley, I-15 through the Cajon Pass, Hwy 2 between Phelan and Wrightwood, I-15 between Victorville and Barstow and Lucerne Valley, where population of Punjabi Community was in big numbers”, he said.
Chahal said that the advisory of the National Weather Service has stated that Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain causing urban and small stream flooding.
“Overflowing poor drainage areas will likely result in minor flooding in the advisory area. As of now 1 to 3 inches of rain have been recorded. This advisory includes portions of the San Diego city limits”, he added.
NAPA members also said that according to the advisory, a Flash Flood Watch was also mentioned, which in turn meant that conditions may develop which could lead to flash flooding. “Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation”, Chahal added.
