Chandigarh: Rains lashed many places inPunjab and Haryana today, with MeT Department predicting monsoon to hit the two states by month end. The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded 11.1 mm of rain.
In Haryana, Ambala and Yamunanagar received 14.4 mm and 14 mm of rain, while Panchkula and Karnal recorded 9 mm and 3.2 mm rain, respectively. Amritsar in Punjab received heavy showers at 18.4 mm, Ludhiana got 7.2 mm of rain while Patiala had light rain at 1 mm. According to Chandigarh’s MeT Department Director Surinder Paul, the present change in weather was caused by two weather systems, including a Western Disturbance which lay over J&K and neighbourhood. “Going by the current progress of the monsoon, it is likely to hit Punjab and Haryana by end of June,” Paul said, adding the weather in the region would remain cloudy even tomorrow.
