Kapurthala: RCF has been awarded ‘GreenTech Environment Award-2017’ in Gold Category in Engineering sector by GreenTech Foundation for outstanding achievements in Environment Management.
The award was presented at 17th Annual GreenTech Environment & CSR Conference-2017 organised at Bangalore by K Sharan, Chairman & CEO, GreenTech Foundation, New Delhi and K U Mistry, Chairman, Gujarat Pollution Control Board and was received by P C Gupta Chief Mechanical Engineer, RCF. He was accompanied by Bhupeshwar Attri, Chief Quality Manager/RCF. RCF is making all endeavors for maintaining green environment through clean and environment friendly technologies, mass tree plantations, rain water harvesting, energy conservation, use of solar energy and zero effluent discharge. Green-toilets are being provided in railway coaches to keep railway track & stations clean.
With the continued mass tree plantation programme in residential and workshop area, RCF has now attained a green cover of about 55%. Every year thousands of saplings are planted making the campus lush green. For proper utilization of rain water, 77 rain water harvesting bore wells are functioning in the campus area. Sewage treatment plant treats water to the tune of 10500 KL/day. About 15% of treated water is being used for irrigation purposes within RCF itself. Solid by product of the STP is being used as manure for improving fertility of soil. RCF hospital, rest houses, training centre & RPF barracks are endowed with solar water heating system. Besides, solar powered lights are provided in the workshop and in the lake area. To optimize functioning of street lighting, astro-timers are provided. To keep railway tracks clean, RCF has developed green-toilets which are being fitted in conventional and LHB coaches. Use of hardwood has been eliminated in coaches. CNC machines of modern technology are working in RCF workshop which are exemplary in making optimum use of clean and environment friendly technology.
Terming this award as result of team efforts, R P Nibariya, General Manager congratulated the all the RCF employees for adding one more feather to RCF’s cap , he also commented that very coach turned out from RCF will be fitted with green-toilets ; Green cover of RCFwill be enhanced by planting more trees through mass tree plantation programmes; number of rain harvesting bore wells will be increased to100; water consumption will be reduced; electrical energy consumption also checked by extensive use of LED lights in streets and in houses.DP
