One such gang of two motorcyclists (on separate bikes) is active in the city and robbed a Sector-16 industrialist of Rs 1.7 lakh he was carrying in a bag on the back seat of his Innova. Here’s how the robbery happened without the use of arms or force. The two bikers tailed the SUV of the victim, Arvind Malik, possibly from his factory.
Malik’s driver and contractor, Brij Mohan, accompanied him and they were on their way to buy marble from the Dhanas market. As they reached near the market, one of the bikers allegedly spilled oil in front of the SUV.
The other biker then ‘informed’ the car occupants of an oil leak in their vehicle. The three occupants alighted from the car to check and opened the bonnet. Taking advantage of the distracted victims, the accused opened the back door of the SUV, took the cash bag from the seat and scooted away.
When Malik and his men got back into the vehicle, they noticed the missing bag and raised an alarm.
Police reached the spot and a case was registered against unidentified people at the Sarangpur police station under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The police said only one of the accused was wearing a helmet. “The victims left their car unguarded when told about the leakage. Within seconds, the cash bag was gone,” said deputy superintendent of police, central, Ram Gopal.
