Chandigarh: Contrary to the public perception, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is confident of hitting a hat-trick of government formation after declaration of the results of the Assembly elections held on February 4.
Sukhbir Badal held the view that main contest is with AAP in Malwa region
All the members predicted the party’s victory on the basis of their assessment
The senior leaders have been instructed to camp in Delhi for DSGMC polls
The mood was stated to be upbeat in its core committee meeting held under the chairmanship of the party president Sukhbir Badal at his official residence in Chandigarh on Saturday. Almost all the members predicted the party’s victory on the basis of their assessment of the voting in their respective areas.
Sources said the party president Sukhbir Badal held the view that his party’s main contest was with AAP in Malwa region whereas Congress emerged as its rival in Doaba and Majha regions. Those present shared his view. It is also learnt that the committee members were fully convinced about followers of different Deras particularly of Sacha Sauda having voted in favour of the party’s candidates.
The committee thanked the voters for the peaceful polling across the state. It also noted with concern a deep-rooted and dangerous conspiracy by forces inimical to the Khalsa Panth to create confusion and sow seeds of disunity in Panthic ranks. Their sustained and highly motivated campaign is aimed at depriving the Sikh masses of a credible single socio-political and religious platform.
This is the reason behind the vicious anti-Akali propaganda carried out by the anti-Sikh forces acting under the garb of Sikhs before and during the just concluded elections to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, said the media note released after the meeting.
Free from Punjab polls, the party leadership discussed strategy and preparations for the forthcoming Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections. All the senior leaders were instructed to camp in Delhi from February 16 to ensure the victory of the party’s candidates in Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee elections. They were also assigned duties for the purpose.
Sukhbir Badal is learnt to have asked the party’s candidates in Punjab elections to send any complaint to the party office within 15 days about any leader or member having worked against them in the elections. A suitable action would be taken against those found guilty.
Those present at the meeting included Jathedar Ranjit SIngh Brahampura, Jathedar Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Jathedar Tota Singh, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Bibi Upinderjit Kaur,Jathedar Janmeja SIngh Sekhon, Jathedar Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Jathdar Nirmal Singh Kahlon Jathedar Sikandar Singh Maluka, Jathedar Mahesh Inder SIngh Grewal, Jathedar Charanjit SIgh Atwal, Jathedar Gulzar Singh Ranike, and Jathedar Harcharan Singh Bains
