The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday announced that it will hold constituency-wise ‘pol khol rallies’ across the Punjab to highlight governance of the Congress government and this exercise would be started with the first rally at Fazilka by the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. These rallies will be addressed by the senior leadership of the party. In a statement, former minister and the SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that the big betrayal done to farmers, youth, employees and other sections of the society in Punjab by the Congress government would be exposed through these rallies. He said that the Congress has to explain why it was running away from implementing the complete loan waiver scheme that it had promised to farmers of Punjab. “From taking away people’s jobs by closing thermal plants, to closure of Sewa Kenrdas, closing of 800 primary schools, indiscrimination with Punjabi language at government schools, complete shutdown of development activities, atrocities on political rivals, murder of democracy in civic polls and complete failure of law and order all issues will be highlighted during these rallies” he added. Giving further detail of the issues to be raised during the proposed rallies, the SAD leader said that the Congress has put on hold all the welfare schemes, be it Atta dal scheme, old age pension and other pensions, 200 units of free power to SC families, Shagun scheme, scholarships to SČ students, since it came to power around 11 months back. These issues will be highlighted aggressively during the Pol Khol rallies and force it to resume all social benefits to the needy immediately. Giving detail of the Pol-Khol rallies, the SAD leader said that there rallies will be held as on 9 February at the assembly constituency of Rampura Phul, on 13 February at Baghapurana, 14 February at Dakha, 15 February at Garhshankar, 22 February at Amloh, 27 February at Bhulath, and on 28 February at Guruharsahai. He further said that on 1st March, on the occasion of Hola Mohalla, the annual SAD conference will be held at Anandpur. After that rallies will be organised on 6 March at Kotakpura, 7 March at shahkot, 8 March Sahnewal,12 March at Lehra and on 13 March at Samana assembly constituency. Dr Cheema said that the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal will participate at the SAD’s annual conference to be held in memory of Vadda Ghalukara at village Kutba Bahmania of Barnala on 8 February.
