Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday stayed the arrest of former SP of Gurdaspur Salwinder Singh in a case registered against him in city police station Gurdaspur. He is facing alleged rape and corruption charges. The court also issued notice of motion to the Punjab government and directed to file reply to the anticipatory bail plea of Salwinder Singh.
He was transferred to Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Jalandhar but did not join duty there and is absconding. Additional District and Sessions Judge, Gurdaspur, had denied anticipatory bail to Salwinder Singh on August 11 this year. The former SP’s counsel Maninder Singh Bajwa, submitted before the High Court on Monday that the complainant had made the complaint against the police officer after a delay of two years.
Hearing Salwinder’s anticipatory bail petition Justice M M S Bedi also directed Salwinder Singh to join the investigation. The court fixed September 23 the next date of hearing. A case against former SP was registered by the Gurdaspur on August 3 under Sections 376-C of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988
