Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notice to the Punjab government, the Director General of Police, Bathinda Deputy Commissioner and SSP etc for December 1 in a petition filed by Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann seeking directions to the Punjab government to give permission for holding the Sarbat Khalsa (congregation) on December 8 at Talwandi Sabo.
Counsel for the petitioner senior advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal said that a fresh petition has been filed seeking permission for holding Sarbat Khalsa on December 8. Lakhanpal said that he had informed the High Court Single Bench on behalf of the petitioner that the petitioner apprehends that the government might not give permission for holding the Sarbat Khalsa.
Lakhanpal alleged that earlier also the government dilly-dallied and did nothing in this regard. However a fortnight ago, the petitioner and his colleagues came to know that the government has declined them permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa (congregation).
In his petition, Mann sought the quashing of the order passed by Bathinda Deputy Commissioner, whereby he was declined the permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa.
After hearing the arguments of the petitioners counsel the Bench issued notice of motion to the Punjab government and adjourned the case to December 1.
