Amritsar, October 16: A delegation under the leadership of Paramjit Singh Sarna, President Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi, met Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj regarding the celebration of 550th birthday of first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 2019. They handed her a letter and asked to allow them to take Nagar Kirtan from Delhi to Nankana Sahib, Pakistan. Asking for proper security arrangements involved, they also appealed to open Kartarpur corridor. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj also responded positively to all demands.
In this regard, Manjit Singh Sarna party secretary, said that president Paramjit Singh Sarna and secretary general Harwinder Singh Sarna held a special meeting with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in their office. During meeting, they discussed many issues of Sikh religion and also elaborated the grand celebration on 550th birthday of founder of Sikhism coming in 2019. In fact, Pakistan government, OCAB board and Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has permitted them to take Nagar Kirtan from Delhi to Nankana Sahib. Sarna brothers got positive response from Sushma Swaraj and said that she gave assurance of all kind of support and herself promised to be the part of it.
While talking on the issue of opening of Kartarpur corridor she replied that she couldn’t take decision on it solely but she would talk to Home Ministry regarding this and some solution would definitely be found on this, as the matter is connected to the government of two nations. When they drew her attention towards the matter that Sikh pilgrims not being able to attend the religious functions organised by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, as they celebrated the day according to their calendar and Indian government did not provide special railway facilities in this regard then she replied that Railway Ministry would be consulted in this regard and all possible help will be provided to the pilgrims to keep their religious sentiments unharmed. Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj gave positive response to all their queries.
