Amritsar: Sarpanchs of three border villages have deposited Rs 42 lakh under the appropriate head of panchayats’ accounts from which they were reported to have been withdrawn by them.
According to sources, an amount of Rs 50 lakh had been allocated to the said sarpanches of villages namely Kotli Naseer Khan, Daoke and Bhaserke for the construction of toilets in villages.
Sarpanch Amanpreet Singh of village Kotli Naseer Khan, Sarpanch Surinder Singh of Bhaserke and Saprpanch Manjit Kaur of village Daoke, allegedly withdrew Rs 42 lakh in connivance with block development project officer and panchayat secretary.
After a complaint in this regard was lodged Deputy Commissioner(DC), Amritsar, Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, marked an inquiry.
District Development and Panchayat Officer(DDPO) of Amritsar, Iqbalpreet Singh, who unearthed the scam and brought the fact to light.
Panchayat secretary, Bhupinder Singh had also opened accounts in Axis and HDFC bank in the name of his brother-in-law, Davinder Singh.
