Chandigarh: A case pertaining to fee of Scheduled Caste (SC) students will come up for hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday. The petition in this matter was filed by the Association of Private ITIs of Punjab. The Punjab Government has to pay the remaining fee of the SC students by Wednesday. The fee has to be paid to the SC students under post matric scholarship scheme of the Central Government.
Justice M Jeyapaul had issued notice to the state government and directed it to file a reply by Wednesday. The Association of Private ITIs of Punjab had lodged a petition explaining that as per the scheme of the Centre, the government had to make the 100 per cent subsidy of the fees of the SC students to the institutes imparting training to the SC students.
Under this scholarship scheme, students belonging to SC category had been getting free education and the Punjab Government makes the full payment of their tuition fees from the funds issued by the Union government. Counsel for the petitioner association Karanvir Singh said that the court had directed the state government to file reply in this regard. He also said that the arguments in the case would be held during Wednesday’s hearing. Counsel for the petitioner said that the SC students fee is being paid under the Central government scheme.
