Jalandhar, October 4 : – Ensuring hassle free paddy lifting, the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Wednesday said that Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) would be held accountable for any delay in purchase and lifting of paddy in their respective tehsils. Chairing a meeting to review the ongoing paddy procurement in the district, the Deputy Commissioner said that no callousness in the procurement of grains would be tolerated. “SDMs should ensure foolproof arrangements by involving the entire government machinery, so farmers do not face any inconvenience and the paddy was procured well on time”, he said.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the SDMs to personally go to the grain market to supervise the entire operations. “The Revenue officers at the local level along with the Block Development and Panchayat Officers should also be roped in for
visit to the grain markets to ensure hassle free procurement of the crop. Besides this, the SDMs should also submit paddy procurement report to him”, he added. Meanwhile, the DC also asked the SDMs to take punitive action against any officials or any unscrupulous elements, who were found harassing the farmers during the procurement process.Following National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma Wednesday said that teams of district administration along with Remote Sensing Satellites would keep a strict vigil on this environmental hazard. Sharma said that the team of Revenue, Panchayati Raj, Police and other officials would ensure that paddy straw burning does not take place in villages. He said that the satellites would detect the place where any burning of paddy straw has taken and subsequently, action would be taken against the person concerned.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Revenue Department to ensure that Red Entry was done in the land records after any such stubble burning incident was reported from any village. “As per state government decision, action would also be taken against government officials in whose area of jurisdiction, paddy straw burning would take place”, he said. Sharma said that action would also be initiated against Nambardar, elected members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and others who indulged in stubble burning.
