Bathinda:A team of vigilance department on Wednesday arrested four employees of the Municipal Council Gidderbaha for accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a private contractor.
The accused have been identified as SDO Parhlad Kumar, two Junior Engineers (JEs) Navdeep Grover, Gaurav Dhir and a clerk Karan Kumar.
Divulging details, Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Vigilance Bureau, Flying Squad-I, Chandigarh, Surjit Singh, on whose direction the team conducted the raid, informed that a contractor named Ranjit Singh lodged a complaint with his office that the MC officials were pressing him to increase the commission (bribe) percentage to get the bills cleared.
The contractor was awarded the jobs of laying interlocking tiles in the streets of Gidderbaha.
“The group of accused (MC officials) earlier used to charge 8 per cent commission (bribe) but sometime back they revised it to 13 per cent and now they were allegedly forcing the contractor to pay them 20 per cent of the total job amount,” informed the AIG, while speaking over phone.
The contractor after disclosing his pain to the VB officials lodged a formal complaint and on the basis of that a team of VB officials from Bathinda office led by SP Bhupinder Singh laid the trap.
The clerk worked as conduit. He accepted the money on the behalf of all four in the group and the team nabbed then them and recovered the currency notes from their office, claimed the AIG.
