Jalandhar: A team of Haryana government officials on Friday shared that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar led BJP government would be implementing low cost ‘Seechewal Model’ of cleaning polluted river waters in April. They met environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal on Friday.
Panchayati Raj officials from Ambala, Yamuna Nagar and Kaithal cities of Haryana were here at Seechewal village to understand the functioning of the ‘Seechewal Model’ under which water was treated and being used for agricultural purposes.
Yamanu Nagar additional SDO Lakhmi Chand and Jagdish Singh said that over a dozen officials and employees from the concerned departments had reached Seechewal village on Friday. It is pertinent to mention here that Khattar had visited set Seechewal village and Sultanpur Lodhi in the month of October.
The officials also saw that Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) set up by Baba Seechewal at Sultanpur Lodhi railway station, where 35 acre of land was being irrigated through the treated water. Sharing the details of Seechewal Model with officials from Kaithal, Baba Seechewal said that the project was set up with the help of only five pipes.
“One motor was meant to divert treated water to the plants. This is the only low cost method of treating polluted river waters in the country. Not only the water would be treated but it would also help in replenishing the ground water table,” he said. Cleaning of rivers in Haryana has been a major problem, which needs to be addressed on a priority basis.
